Blue Crabs Sign Pair Of Former Revs

Wayne Franklin

Quick Update - Former Revolution pitchers Wayne Franklin and Byron Batson have recently signed with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Both players have been bouncing around the Atlantic League this season so hopefully they have found a good fit within the Blue Crabs organization.

Rosen Headed To GBL

The Tucson Toros of the Golden Baseball league announced their first batch of players on April 16th. Among those players is former Revolution LHP Mark Rosen. Rosen came to York in early June of last year and appeared in 14 games with the Revs, going 0-2 and posting a 3.77 ERA. Prior to coming to York the Boston native had spent six seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. The Toros season starts at home on May 21st.

Kotch Returns?

There has been no official announcement from the York Revolution but according to the Frontier League transactions page, catcher Kevin Kotch is headed back to York. The Gateway Grizzlies have traded the Kotch to York for future considerations.

Spring Training Time For Esquivel

Former Revolution outfielder Matt Esquivel has begun spring training at the Cleveland Indians minor league camp in Arizona. The minor league spring training games started Wednesday and Esquivel had his first game Thursday. He was the DH in an intrasquad game between AAA Columbus and AA Akron. Esquivel had 2 at bats and recorded one strikeout for Columbus. Akron won the game 5-0.

Kotch Heading To Frontier League

While browsing the transactions for a few other independent baseball leagues I came across a familiar name. Former Revolution backup catcher Kevin Kotch has signed a contract with the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League. After starting the season with the Revolution, Kotch was traded to Lancaster and eventually finished the season as a member of the 2008 Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots.

Darin Kinsolving

On March 8, 2007 the York Revolution announced the signings of six new players for the inaugural season. Among those players was outfielder Darin Kinsolving. The Missouri native was no stranger to independent baseball, as he had previously played for teams in the Can-Am, Frontier and Northern Leagues. Unfortunately, his time with the Revolution was short. Kinsolving suffered a shoulder injury and was released from the team on May 3, 2007. Shortly after his release & subsequent shoulder surgery he signed on as a bench coach for the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League. Today, Kinsolving is set to begin his second season as the Grizzlies bench coach and also owns a hitting academy at GCS Ballpark, the home of the Gateway Grizzlies.

Jeff Farnsworth

Right now I'm watching an interesting pitchers duel between Mexico & Venezuela in the Caribbean World Series. The game is currently in extra innings, tied at 0-0 in the top of the 11th. I just happened to notice they mentioned Jeff Farnsworth in the bullpen for Venezuela. If you remember, Jeff Farnsworth pitched for York during the inaugural season until he was signed by the Boston Red Sox on Sept. 1, 2007. What makes this really interesting is that Venezuela (Farnsworth) and Puerto Rico (Padilla) will be facing off Wednesday evening. So tune in to the MLB network at 5PM EST to see two Revolution alumni go head to head.

Puerto Rico CWS Schedule

Tune in to the MLB Network to see Juan Padilla and Puerto Rico in the Caribbean World Series. Mexico took the first game against Puerto Rico 3-2. Here is Puerto Rico's schedule for the rest of the series.

Tuesday, Feb. 3 - 5PM EST - Dominican Republic vs. Puerto Rico
Wednesday, Feb. 4 - 5PM EST - Venezuela vs. Puerto Rico
Thursday, Feb. 5 - 9PM EST - Mexico vs. Puerto Rico
Friday, Feb. 6 - 5PM EST - Puerto Rico vs. Dominican Republic
Saturday, Feb. 7 - 5PM EST - Puerto Rico vs. Venezuela

York area residents can tune into Comcast channel 280 to view the games. These games will also be replayed later at night so don't worry if you miss the game the first time around. All times and information can be found at: http://mlbnetwork.mlb.com/network/

Also, there seems to be some confusion as to whether or not Juan Padilla played for Ponce in the Puerto Rican Winter League. He did start the season with the Criollos de Caguas before being traded to the Leones De Ponce. His official stats page on mlb.com shows that he played 17 games with Ponce. His era was 3.45 and he posted 5 wins, 2 losses and 1 save. http://mlb.mlb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=Juan%20Padilla&pos=P&sid=l162&t=p_pbp&pid=433677
